KUTHO

Conceptual

 

 

KUTHO takes inspiration from a Burmese concept of merit. A common ritual undertaken by Burmese Buddhists is to cover their relics with gold leaves. Leaving a gold-mark is exclusive to male devotees for merit-making towards better karma. Women, in the guise of an impure status, are forbidden to approach. All over the kingdoms of Indochina, in a similar way, monks/nuns are other topics to see the place of women in religion nowadays. To go beyond persistent stereotypes I think that  liberation of the soul is an endless work in progress.

I care about how an offering affirms the idea of the next life and empowers us by being used as a tool for that purpose. Gold and Religion have an ancient relationship.

The series talks about Power associated with Religion and the relationship between the visible / not visible, cult/occult, and parallels universes.

I use the same leaves to seal my memory with this gold light, which grace I can not access, and post a question about the duality of human nature, on those cultural orders that are such assimilated, that not seen.

These interventions are aimed at interrupting expectations and expanding our interactions with the photograph and its meaning.

KUTHO

Conceptual

 

KUTHO se inspira en el concepto birmano de mérito. Un ritual budista cotidiano en Indochina es cubrir las reliquias más sagradas con hojas de oro puro. Dejar una huella - oro es exclusivo a los hombres devotos para ganar méritos hacia un mejor karma. Las mujeres, por ser consideradas impuras, tenemos bloqueado el acceso. De manera similar, lo que pasa con los monjes y monjas es otra manera de ver el lugar de la mujer en las creencias actualmente.

Religión y espiritualidad son dos caras de una misma moneda que a veces juegan roles antagónicos. Más allá de estereotipos persistentes, la liberación del alma es un trabajo en progreso continuo.

Me interesa cómo una ofrenda afirma la idea de una próxima vida y nos empodera al ser utilizada como herramienta para tal fin.

Oro y religión tienen una relación ancestral. La serie habla de poder asociado al credo y de la relación entre lo visible / no visible, culto / oculto y universos paralelos. Pienso en la dualidad de la naturaleza humana y en aquellos órdenes culturales que, por estar tan asimilados, no son vistos.
